The SDG Summit in Gurugram, spanning from July 20th to 23rd, emerged as a remarkable success under the guidance of Summit Advisors Mr. Danish Macknight and Mr. Vihan Saraswat. Illuminating the Future was the overarching theme, aiming to unite diverse voices and channel collective action towards a sustainable and inclusive world. With an impressive participation of over 900+ students from Shalom Hills International School and Shalom Presidency School, Gurugram, the event was made possible through the generous support of sponsors and partners, including Platinum Sponsor Kanan.co, Gurugram, and Associate Sponsors such as Bhanzu, VMC Study Abroad, Scholarly, Astron, Ashley Estate, Fiitjee, and Transaction Point.

The Summit commenced with a grand Opening Ceremony graced by distinguished guests. Brig. Randhir Singh, adorned as the Chief Guest, brought his esteemed presence to inaugurate the event. Accompanying him were Guest of Honours Mr. Ishwar Singh Mehla and Col. Ajay Dabur, whose notable contributions and insights added an extra layer of significance to the occasion. The Closing Ceremony, marking the conclusion of this impactful summit, was honoured by the esteemed presence of Chief Guest Maj. Gen. G. D. Bakshi. The event also welcomed Guest of Honours Ms. Anupama Trigunayat, Cap. Dharamveer Singh, and Mr. Bhawani Shankar Tripathi, who contributed to the grandeur of the concluding festivities. Their collective presence underscored the importance of the SDG Summit Gurugram and their commitment to fostering sustainable and inclusive practices for a better future.

The competition segment of the event showcased an array of talents and intellectual prowess across various categories. In the Speech Competition, adjudicated by Ms. Asmita Chugh, Ms. Vyomika Sharma, Ms. Soumya, and Ms. Isha Kashwan, Shalom Hills International School triumphed with winners Trisha, Suhansh Kanwar, Ankita Jha, and Pranita Dutta securing the top spot. Avantika Gulati, Dhaanye Kaushik, Sanskriti Thaman, and Adwit Jha claimed the second position, while third place went to Atulya Saini (SPS), Asmi Alisha Biswal (SPS), Sarthak Jain (HDFC), and Aletheia Hosanna Joseph. A special jury award was presented to Aarna Jaiswal (SHIS), Manya Shainu (SPS), Shambhavi (SPS), Anuradha Baghi (SHIS), Shaurya Dogra (SPS), Pankhuri Kashiv (SHIS), and Kairav Gujral (SHIS).

The Poster Making Competition at the event was a vibrant display of artistic talent and creativity, with participants showcasing their prowess in visual storytelling. The judging panel, consisting of Ms. Karishmaa Singhal, Ms. Kiranpreet Gogia, Mr. Sarthak Verma, and Ms. Tooba Mirza, faced the challenging task of evaluating the diverse entries. The first prize was clinched by the talented team of Shreyansh, Dhruv Shokeen, Kushar, Sana Sharma, Prisha Rastogi, Amrita Rastogi, and Hansvi Singh, whose artwork demonstrated a harmonious blend of colors and compelling imagery. The second position was secured by Tahira Kalia, Naira Verma, Navya, Shreya Jain, Rudraksh, and Aadhya Agarwal, showcasing their unique perspective through art. The third spot was claimed by Harvi Kaur (HDFC), Vanni, Kavya Yadav, Atharv, and Tiara, whose poster art reflected a thoughtful and creative approach. The competition not only celebrated the artistic flair of the participants but also highlighted the importance of visual communication in conveying powerful messages.

The Quiz Tournament, under the discerning judgement of Mr. Sanchit Singh and Mr. Shubham Mudgil, showcased the intellectual prowess and quick thinking of the participating students. The first place was secured by the dynamic duo Trinav Gate and Kavyansh Gauba from Blue Bells, demonstrating their comprehensive knowledge across diverse topics. Rithvik Kumar Verma and Viaan Verma from SPS claimed the second position, impressing the audience with their depth of understanding and strategic approach. Hridhaan Batra and Swarit from SPS secured the third spot, showcasing their analytical skills and teamwork. Recognizing outstanding performance, Ian and Viaan from SHIS were awarded a Special Jury Award, adding an extra layer of achievement to their participation in the quiz competition. The event not only fostered healthy competition but also celebrated the students' enthusiasm for learning and their ability to think on their feet.

 

The Debatathon, a fiercely contested debate competition at the summit, witnessed eloquent arguments and intellectual prowess from the participants. The panel of esteemed judges, consisting of Ms. Bhavika Dabur, Ms. Akhila S Nir, and Ms. Anubhuti Singh, evaluated the participants on their persuasive abilities and logical reasoning. Avni Mathur from 8 SPS emerged victorious, securing the first position with her articulate presentation. Tanishka claimed the second position, showcasing a keen understanding of the topic, while Anaya from SHIS secured the third position with her insightful arguments. The competition also recognized Parv Bhardwaj from SPS and Amitesh Choudhary from SHIS as commendable speakers, acknowledging their exceptional oratory skills. Furthermore, special jury awards were presented to Raghav, Akshita Saini from SPS, Aarna Gupta from HDFC School, Atharva Singh from SPS, Siddhiksha Srivastva from SHIS, Anwesha from SPS, Mansi from SHIS, and Varnika from Blue Bells Model School, highlighting their outstanding contributions to the spirited discourse of the Debatathon.

The Shark Tank Competition at the event brought forth innovative ideas and entrepreneurial spirit among the participants. Judges Mr. Lakhan Saddi and Ms. Rose Kawatra presided over the competition, evaluating the business proposals presented by the talented participants. The winners showcased their creativity and strategic thinking in developing viable business models. The results of the competition are as follows: Sanskriti from Blue Bells secured the first position with a compelling business pitch. Aditya and Drona Dhaiya from KR MANGLAM claimed the second position with their entrepreneurial endeavors, while Advik Rana from SPS secured the third position. Additionally, the panel awarded special jury recognition to outstanding participants, including Uday, Anant, and Advitya from HDFC, Mannat and Saanvi from KR MANGLAM, as well as Ashutosh, Rishab, and Madhav from KR MANGLAM, and Kavish Jindal from GD Goenka Public. The Shark Tank competition highlighted the creative and strategic acumen of the participants, providing a platform for innovative ideas and fostering an entrepreneurial spirit among the youth.

 

The Moot Court Competition at the summit, under the discerning judgment of Mr. Sanat Saluja, Ms. Shreya Rai, and Ms. Devika Singh, witnessed compelling legal arguments and fierce advocacy. Chirag Bhandari and Kohinoor Sharma from GD Goenka Public School secured the first position with their exceptional legal acumen, while Prajesh Talwar and Mannat from Blue Bells claimed the second spot, demonstrating a profound understanding of legal intricacies. Sanvi Baranwal and Angel Gupta from SHIS displayed commendable legal skills, earning them the third position. The title of Best Speaker was awarded to Kaashni Katyal and Riddhi Khandelwal from Aravali International, recognizing their eloquence and persuasive abilities. In addition, a Special Jury Award was bestowed upon Falak Badhan and Saanvi Rai Sinha from SHIS, acknowledging their outstanding contribution to the Moot Court proceedings. The competition not only showcased the participants' legal prowess but also highlighted the dedication and preparation that went into presenting compelling legal arguments.

SHALOM MUN

The Model United Nations (SHALOM MUN) served as the flagship event of the summit, providing a platform for students to engage in diplomatic simulations and foster a deeper understanding of global issues. The event featured a distinguished panel of judges and executive board members, ensuring the authenticity and quality of the debates. Each committee had a dedicated team overseeing its proceedings, including UNHRC chaired by Nishkarsh Bareja with Elpsa Nagpal as Vice-Chairperson and Sania Sarin as Rapporteur. The UNCSW committee was led by Adarsh Kumar Singh as Chairperson, Sachit Singh as Vice-Chairperson, and Ekus Singh Khosla as the Substantive Director. AIPPM had Adv. Mayank Singhal as Moderator, Prerna as Deputy Moderator, and Ishika Midha as Scribe. UNODC was overseen by Lakhan Saddi as Chairperson, Akanksha Rai as Vice-Chairperson, and Rishaan Sahgal as Rapporteur. The UNGA committee was chaired by Vani Nigam with Abhik Choudhary as Vice-Chairperson. G20 featured Bhavika Dabur as Chairperson, Akanksha Vats as Vice-Chairperson, and Vyomika as the Substantive Director. UNEP was led by Vaibhav Tyagi as Chairperson, Yashmeet Saini as Substantive Director, and Riddhima Arora as Rapporteur. UNICEF was chaired by Sarthak Arora with Abhilaksh as Substantive Director and Angle Khanna as Rapporteur. The International Press (IP) team, crucial for covering the event, was led by Sarthak Verma as Head of IP and Vanshkika Verma as Editor In Chief, ensuring comprehensive media coverage of the Model United Nations proceedings. The diverse expertise of the judges and EB members contributed to the success and educational value of the SHALOM MUN.

The Gurugram Chapter of the SDG Summits, conducted from July 20th to 23rd, emerged as a resounding success, drawing enthusiastic participation from more than 900 students. The summit, hosting seven compelling competitions spanning speeches to entrepreneurial pitches, left an indelible mark with its vibrant engagement, profound discussions, and a heightened awareness of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among the participants. The Summit Advisors state "Beyond the competitive spirit, the event served as a catalyst for instilling a sense of responsibility towards global issues, emphasizing the crucial role of youth in contributing to sustainable development. Moreover, it became a platform for young talents to shine, highlighting their dedication and commitment to making a positive impact on the world. The success of the Gurugram Chapter underscores the significance of such forums in nurturing the next generation of socially conscious leaders and change-makers."
